I’ve had a hankering of late to try my hand at poetry. At the risk of getting in over my head (and getting discouraged), I thought I might experiment with Haiku. I remember having to write in this form in school so I hoped it would be somewhat easy and definitely fun to try now.
I did a Google search and found the basic format. 3 lines. The first line is 5 syllables; the second is 7; the third has 5. Doesn’t sound too difficult, right? More like a puzzle than anything. Oh and keep the thesaurus handy, too!
Then I stumbled across this site: http://www.creative-writing-now.com/how-to-write-a-haiku.html Must check it out if this is your first attempt at Haiku. Lots of good tips! They reminded me that the subject matter should be nature-related, that two lines should closely relate while the third is a bit different.
