Will the bond of blood outweigh the passions of the heart?

BLURB

While sketching the Temple of Dendur, graduate student Carter Denwright meets—and is seduced by—a powerful vampire by the name of Alder. Once kept secret from the human world, now everyone knows of their existence. Blinded by mistaken feelings for Alder, Carter allows himself to be drawn into his life. Too late, he realizes two things: one, Alder is vicious and cruel, and two, Carter’s true love is Alder’s brother, Freyr.

The attraction between Carter and Freyr is strong, but they must fight this feeling or face the wrath of Alder. Despite their best efforts, Alder discovers the truth, and punishes Carter, hiding him from Freyr in a cruel game of cat and mouse.

Freyr is not as strong as his brother, but he vows that he will find Carter again and will stop at nothing to get him back. Carter, caught in Alder’s cruel grip, commits an act of desperation which will change all their lives forever. The question is: can Freyr find Carter and is the bond between him and Carter enough to break Alder’s hold and spoil his plans to ruin them both?

EXCERPT

Freyr practically dragged me upstairs. I turned to go toward our room, but he went in the opposite direction.

“Oof!” I grunted when he yanked my arm. “Where are we going?”

“Shh!”

“But where—”

He stopped suddenly and I crashed into the back of him. “Carter, what part of ‘shh!’ do you not comprehend?”

“Bully.”

His jaw tightened and raised an eyebrow. I clasped my hands not-so-innocently behind my back, tilted my hips out and ran my tongue slowly over my fangs. Freyr’s breathing came faster and he moved toward me, but then he remembered his original purpose and continued down the hall. Halfway down the east wing, he reached behind a huge Grecian amphora and pressed a button on the wall behind it. A piece of the wood-paneled wall slid open to reveal a modern keypad. Monday Flash: Gotta Have Faith

Monday_Flash_Banner

What a great photo for this week’s edition of Monday Flash Fiction! Avery was very excited to see where her story would go. Not trying to spoil anything, but she decided to skip the sad ending. *thank goodness*

Feel free to check out the group’s Facebook page here.

The stories are to be no more than 500 words (shh, this one’s a bit over), and are to be based on the picture prompt.

I hope that you enjoy this week’s story!

Gotta Have Faith

by
Avery Dawes

Blinding headlights pierced the night and time slowed to a crawl as the monster truck crossed the centerline and slammed into us. The seat belt bit into my torso as glass shards pierced my skin. The car spun, bouncing me around the interior like a rag doll.

Once we came to rest, I fought for equilibrium. I have to reach Matty.  The vague sound of sirens wailed in the distance. Pain radiated in countless waves. If only I could move… The darkness beckoned, and I gladly—willingly—succumbed.

My subconscious awakened, and disappointment coursed through me. Wasn’t my life supposed to flash before my eyes? What was wrong with me? I’d been so focused on Matty, the love of my life. We were nothing without each other. He was truly my other half—no way could I go on without him. Continue reading “Monday Flash: Gotta Have Faith”

Wednesday Briefs: Shipwreck, Part II

Are you ready for more Will and Foster?? I sure hope so! Now that Foster’s no longer lost at sea, we’ve got to find out if any sparks fly between the two guys.

Avery used three prompts (some in a small way) in this post:

  • A cat purring
  • Including a pirate
  • Including a shower

I hope you enjoy this installment of the story! Feel free to leave me a comment or two about the guys!

Shipwreck, Part II

by

Avery Dawes

Foster kept his mouth shut, worried he was placing a strain on his rescuer’s bad leg. There had to be a story to go with those scars, but Foster wasn’t in a position to ask what it was. Maybe after he knew the guy more than a couple of minutes. Knowing his luck, he’d open his mouth and his brain would derail. He’d end up asking something completely inappropriate…like, “please let me kiss your scars and make them all better.”

Will’s deep voice pulled him from his too-close-to wicked thoughts. “So, pick your poison, sailor. Would you like some breakfast first, or a hot shower?” Will held the door to the bungalow open, and then guided Foster to the kitchen island before helping him to sit on one of the barstools. Top Ten Books with Men in Uniform (M-M)

Today’s theme from The Broke and the Bookish is Top Ten Books Which Feature Characters Who…

I’m filling in that blank with gay men in uniform. Woot woot! So all the books below are from the M-M Genre and include either a gay fire fighter, paramedic, police officer, US Marshal, Navy SEAL, etc.

As I started putting my list together, I didn’t realize I was going to have so many choices. It’s going to be tough to pick just 10!

Be sure to drop a comment and let me know if you’ve read any of the books on my list and what you think *smiles* And be sure to head over to the The Broke and the Bookish to visit the other bloggers who are participating!

My Top Ten Books with LGBT Men in Uniform

1. Hot Head (Head #1) by Damon Suede. This read features Brooklyn firefighter Griff Muir who has the “hots” (heh, heh–I couldn’t resist) for his best friend Dante Anastagio.

2. Hard Fall (Deputy Joe #1) by James Buchanan. This read has Deputy Joe Peterson “falling” (sorry, I’m full of bad puns tonight) for ex-con Kabe Varghese.

3. Private Eye (Liaisons #1) by S.E. Culpepper. P.I. Rafe Bridges is all about helping straight cop Jeremy Halliday.

4. A Sinner Born (Brooklyn Sinners #3) by Avril Ashton. It was hard to pick just one book in this series. Kane Ashby is a hunky Marshal and Syren Rua is damaged and has a hot panty fetish. ‘Nuff said!

5. The Rebuilding Year (#1) by Kaje Harper. This one features former fire fighter Ryan Ward and John Barrett. Definitely a good story! Continue reading “Top Ten Books with Men in Uniform (M-M)”

The Demise of Bobby & Clyde

Title:  The Demise of Bobby & Clyde (Bennett Bay story)The_Demise_Bobby_Clyde

Author:  Stephen del Mar

Genre: M-M Suspense/ Occult with some Romance

Length:  26 pages

Blurb:

Clyde really loved Bobby. He wanted to give his man the world. He thought robbing a bank would be the way to do it. That was his first mistake. The Demise of Bobby and Clyde is a short ghost story set in the boondocks of Big Cypress County, Florida. A classic haunted house tale with a couple of gay bad boys. Warning: It doesn’t end well for the guys, but there is a lot of ever after.

This story is part of Stephen del Mar’s Stories from Bennett Bay collection.

* * * *

If I had to pick three words to describe this read, they would be:

  • Spooky
  • Clever
  • Intriguing

I downloaded this story from Amazon (you can find it here) and got right to reading. It didn’t take me long since it’s a short story, but Mr. del Mar keep me flipping the pages on my Kindle. I liked Bobby and Clyde as characters. I felt for the guys and the situation they found themselves in.

The Gothic mansion was downright creepy! It gave me shivers, and I feared for what was going to happen next.

I’m going to try and do this without spoiling anything, but the chandelier incident was funny and tragic. The ending was absolutely perfect!

A fun, entertaining read with a spooky haunted house and two guys who only seem to have bad luck. Continue reading “The Demise of Bobby & Clyde”

Crossroads

Today I welcome Julie Lynn Hayes to the blog to share her latest release, Crossroads.

Blurb

crossroads72Crossroads: a point at which a crucial decision must be made that will have far-reaching consequences

Clete Deveraux is a little old Southern boy a long way from home, drifting the highways with his abusive boyfriend, Vern. Tal Clark is newly graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, but his plans for a carefree summer have just been derailed and he’s not sure what he’s going to do.

Things happen for a reason…

Clete and Tal’s lives intersect at a rest stop in central Missouri, but sometimes first impressions aren’t the best. And finding the right path isn’t always easy.

Clete and Tal have reached a crossroads… and now they have to decide which way they want to go. And who they want to go with.

Excerpt

As he rounded the corner, he stopped dead in his tracks, his thought not only unfinished, but completely slammed from his head by the sight before him. A figure stood in front of one of the vending machines, slender legs encased in tight blue jeans that led to the most gorgeous ass Tal thought he’d ever seen in his life, a notion that was seconded by his dick, which twitched its agreement.

Genie who?

The girl had fine blonde hair, so pale it seemed almost white, but maybe that was just due to the harshness of the lights. Tal’s heart was beating a staccato tattoo inside his chest at the way she shifted her weight from one leg to the next. His imagination began to run rampant, as he pictured himself placing his hands on those dainty hips, drawing her to him as he nibbled on her neck. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been this turned on. A little voice inside his head rejoiced. Genie was wrong—he wasn’t what she’d said he was, and this was proof positive of that. It was all her fault if he found more pleasure in a book than in her bed. See? The proof of his sexuality was here, staring him in the face. Well, her ass, his face. Continue reading “Crossroads”
