I owe you a huge apology…for leaving you hanging last week. Life, coupled with Internet issues, got in the way of me posting more New Year’s Decadence sooner. But, it was worth the wait, right? Maybe? Hopefully you will think so.
Ok, so when we last saw Carson & Tyler, they were dancing and stealing lots of smooches at Raphael’s. Wonder what happens at midnight? Read on…
Oh, by the way, the prompt for this week’s story is “Lovely place, isn’t it?” And I should mention that some parts of the story are mildly NSFW. *wink*
Without further ado, here’s the next installment of New Year’s Decadence by Avery Dawes:
Carson and Tyler swayed together, their feet moving in small, coordinated steps despite only dancing together for two short weeks. Tyler had managed to not only avoid stepping on Carson’s feet, but he let Carson take the lead and guide them through the varied musical selections. This particular ballad reminded Carson more of the blues with its moody notes and repetitive verses. They continued, seemingly mesmerized by the rhythm and the opulent surroundings even though the music had stopped. A polite cough into the microphone had them halting. Since today is New Year’s Eve, I wanted to share another portion of Tyler and Carson’s story, New Year’s Decadence. Consider this a bonus and a belated Christmas present from Avery to you.
Please celebrate safely this evening! Happy 2015!
New Year’s Decadence, Part II
Dinner was absolutely delicious. They both ordered the chef’s special, a mixture of seafood sautéed in a delicate white wine sauce served over a bed of linguine. Of course, a salad of organic greens, rustic French bread, and dessert were included. Oh, and not to mention the bottle of Acacia Pinot Noir Tyler picked for them. Somebody had to have done his wine research! It complimented their dinner quite well.
Carson nibbled at the last couple of bites of his Godiva chocolate and caramel-drizzled cheesecake. He didn’t want to be so full that he couldn’t take advantage of the dancing. Plus, truth be told, other things were niggling in the recesses of his brain.
“What are you thinking, babe?” Tyler asked, reaching for Carson’s hand across the table. “You got quiet all of a sudden.”
Carson shook his head. “I’m overwhelmed. This has been the perfect night, and it’s just started.” He fidgeted with his fork before continuing, “Plus, I don’t mean to be a downer, but this has got to be hugely expensive.” Continue reading “New Year’s Decadence, continued”
I hope that everyone had a great holiday! Now, we are on the verge of 2015. Where has time gone?!
Avery wanted this edition of Wednesday Briefs to be special. She’s decided to give you a glimpse into what’s happening with Carson and Tyler, her characters from Fall Break Fright. The prompt she picked for this week was to have her characters slow dance (this actually shows up in Part II of the flash since Carson and Tyler got carried away with the word count). In case you aren’t familiar, here is a link for Fall Break Fright.
Remember, Wednesday Briefs are flash fiction pieces so they are limited in word count. They also have to include a prompt.
Avery hopes you enjoy this flash!
New Year’s Decadence
Carson rolled over, reaching for Tyler, only to find his side of the bed empty, the sheets cool. Groaning, Carson sat up enough so he could scan the room before checking the time. Maybe he’d slept later than he thought? He struggled to remember if Tyler had mentioned something about going out first thing this morning.
When he didn’t spy Tyler or hear him banging around the kitchen, he glanced at the clock; however, something blocked the normally bright blue numbers on the face. Carson fumbled, finally grabbing the object. After he adjusted the bed pillows, he examined what was a crisp, white envelope made from a heavy-weight paper. Puzzled, he turned it over in his hands, looking for clues. The engraved “C” on the front didn’t offer anything, other than it had to be expensive. Good thing he didn’t make a living as a detective; he’d have been fired a long time ago! Continue reading “New Year’s Eve Wednesday Briefs”
So, who’s ready for a Fall Break Fright teaser to help you get to the weekend?? Seven sentences are forthcoming, and they will be NSFW-ish. You’ve been warned!! Continue reading “Tease Me Thursday #30”
Where to start…cause Lord knows we’re all busy. I was hoping to have this post up much earlier in the day. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it (as I’m sure you can tell)!
My friend and fellow Wednesday Briefer, Elyzabeth M. Valey, nominated me as part of this blog hop. Be sure to stop by her blog here and check out her character interview 🙂
Avery’s character for this interview is Carson Davis. He is featured in her upcoming release, Fall Break Fright. The release date is September 23rd – be sure to stay tuned for more teasers about the story.
I have to confess that it took some arm twisting to get Carson to agree to this interview. Being a “busy” college student, Carson claimed that he had too much studying and too many papers looming to possibly meet with me. *cough* *big, hacking cough*
When I called on him that – he may be studying, but the subject of said studying was surely his new roommate, Tyler – Carson clammed up and promptly hung up on me. It took several email exchanges, but we were finally able to come to terms. I have to confess that I totally got the short end of the stick. Carson wanted the questions in advance, and he told me the interview would conclude with even a hint about Tyler. (If I’m reading Carson right, he’s really into Tyler. I may have to do some digging on this Tyler fellow.) I also owe him a gift card to Sephora. No, I will not be revealing the amount of the gift card. Carson is sworn to secrecy on that as well so don’t even try to get to him . . . Continue reading “Character Interview: Carson Davis”
