An Action-Packed Read: The Lions of Lucerne

The Lions of Lucerne by Brad Thor is the first in the Scot Harvath series. If you’re looking for an edge-of-your-seat spy thriller, this book is for you!

On the snow-covered slopes of Utah, the President of the United States has been kidnapped and his Secret Service detailLions_Lucerne massacred. Only one agent has survived—ex-Navy SEAL Scot Harvath. He doesn’t buy the official line that Middle Eastern terrorists are behind the attack and begins his own campaign to find the truth and exact revenge. But now, framed for murder by a sinister cabal, Harvath takes his fight to the towering mountains of Switzerland—and joins forces with beautiful Claudia Mueller of the Swiss Federal Attorney’s Office. Together they must brave the subzero temperatures and sheer heights of treacherous Mount Pilatus—where their only chance for survival lies inside the den of the most lethal team of professional killers the world has ever known…

WordPress is killing me today. I’m going to retype my thoughts again, and hopefully, the post is saved so I can publish it. Grr… Okay, frustration aside…

I really enjoyed Brad Thor’s opening book in his Scot Harvath series. Scot is a former Navy SEAL who now protects the president. Before becoming a SEAL he was a skier (fits right into the first scene in this book). Scot is easy to like. He’s confident, has a dry sense of humor, and is very good at what he does. Mind you, he’s not arrogant or stuck on himself. He has been know to rebel against authority and not follow directions very well, but typically, most folks are better off when Scot is pursuing his investigation!

Claudia was a nice addition; although, we meet her early on and then she disappears for a while. When she and Scot finally get together in Switzerland and put their heads together, the bad guys’ scheme quickly unravels. (No, I’m not going to spoil the ending…although the Lions may turn into little kitties *wink*)

If you are looking for an action-packed read with a nearly Tom Clancy-feel, then check out this series. I’ve already started Path of the Assassin, and I’m enjoying it greatly (shh…I almost like it more than this book). I have a feeling Mr. Thor is going to up his game as the books in the series go along.

4 out of 5 stars!
