I started reading Dark Debt (#11 in the Chicagoland Vampires series) by Chloe Neill. I just love Merit and Ethan. Well, how can you not love Ethan when he looks David Beckham?!! In this book, Merit and Ethan have to deal with the return of Ethan’s Master, Balthasar, who conveniently is no longer dead. Huh.
Here’s the official description:
A vampire never gets old. But neither do his enemies. When a figure from Ethan’s dark past makes a splashy debut in Chicago, Merit and her Master don’t know whether he’s friend or foe. But they’ll have to figure out soon, because trouble is brewing in the Windy City.
At an exclusive society soiree attended by the upper echelons of the human and supernatural worlds, Merit and Ethan barely stop the assassination of a guest. When the target turns out to be a shady businessman with a criminal edge, Merit suspects a human vendetta. But the assassins have fangs….
The connections to Chicago’s Houses go deeper than Merit knows, and even one wrong move could be her last….
Now for the #SampleSunday (which, of course, involves Mallory, Ethan, and Merit. They are conversing in Ethan’s office in Cadogan House) (p. 41):
“So, technically,” Mallory said, “you could have disavowed Darth Sullivan?”
The question—and the nickname we used for him—was out before she’d realized what she said. She mouthed a curse, squeezed her eyes closed. “Crap.”
Ethan sat up straight, slowly turned his gaze to me. “Darth Sullivan?”
I inwardly cringed, opted for defense. “You’re so handsome.”
“Merit.”
“And really tall.” I cocked my head at him. “Has anyone ever told you that you resemble David Beckham?””
“Merit.”
There was no avoiding it now…
The rest of the scene is hilarious. Instead of sharing it with Catcher and Mallory, Ethan and Merit communicate telepathically. I was laughing. This is so of the head of Cadogan House and his Sentinel. So glad to be reading this installment in the series.
I’m only to page 56, but it’s nice to be back with the gang in Chicago. I’m hoping we’ll have some shifter sightings in the book as well.
Sounds like such a good book!

So far, so good! I really like this series. Some of the reviews I read weren’t so hot, but I’m holding out hope 🙂

So much of it depends on personal preference, doesn’t it. If I see a bunch of mixed reviews, I usually give it a whirl.
