Recent M-M Romance Reads

I’m so behind on my blogging and on book reviews. I’m going to share some of my recent reads and ratings. Sorry, there won’t be too much of a review. Maybe one of these days I will get caught up!

Hell & High Water (THIRDS #1) by Charlie Cochet.

When homicide detective Dexter J. Daley’s testimony helps send his partner away for murder, the consequences—and the media frenzy—aren’t far behind. He soon finds himself sans boyfriend, sans friends, and, after an unpleasant encounter in a parking garage after the trial, he’s lucky he doesn’t find himself sans teeth. Dex fears he’ll get transferred from the Human Police Force’s Sixth Precinct, or worse, get dismissed. Instead, his adoptive father—a sergeant at the Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron otherwise known as the THIRDS—pulls a few strings, and Dex gets recruited as a Defense Agent.

Dex is determined to get his life back on track and eager to get started in his new job. But his first meeting with Team Leader Sloane Brodie, who also happens to be his new jaguar Therian partner, turns disastrous. When the team is called to investigate the murders of three HumaniTherian activists, it soon becomes clear to Dex that getting his partner and the rest of the tightknit team to accept him will be a lot harder than catching the killer—and every bit as dangerous.

I really liked this one! Sloane is tough and a hot jaguar shifter. Dex has a great sense of humor and is very caring. The two guys are electric together! The other THIRDS team members complete the story—they are a fun bunch who are great at their jobs. The author has come up with a unique premise, and it kept me intrigued. I’ve already started the next book in the series.

Everything Changes by Melanie HansonEverything_Changes

Former Marine and lower-leg amputee Carey Everett keeps a grueling schedule of counseling fellow war veterans and their families. The injury he received in Afghanistan forces him to rely on a reserve of strength he didn’t even know he had. A much deserved vacation will let him reconnect with his best friend, who saved his life and has been there for him through devastating injury and painful recovery.

Part-time EMT and aspiring singer Jase DeSantis has been in love with Carey for years, but he’s come to accept that his straight friend will never be able to offer more. Jase fills his days with band rehearsals, ambulance shifts, and willing groupies, all while trying to cope with debilitating PTSD.

A week of sun, fun, and music in San Diego changes Jase and Carey’s lives forever when their relationship takes an unexpected turn. Jase has been longing for that change, but it leaves Carey reeling with confusion. As Jase fights to hold things together, Carey deals with doubts, fears, and his own preconceived notions about labels and the true nature of love.

This one didn’t hit the spot for me. Of the two main characters, I really liked Jase. Carey was just okay for me. It wasn’t what I expected out of a GFY read. If you aren’t a fan of flashbacks, avoid this one. It was still a solid read; I will check out future stories from this author.

The Fire Underneath by S.C. Wynne

Firefighter Joe Allegretti has some flames that need putting out the minute he meets sexy fellow firefighter, Dallas Williams. But the heat he’s feeling has nothing to do with the burning buildings nearby.

Not counting one curious kiss with another guy in college, Joe has always dated women. But as soon as Dallas appears Joe can’t seem to ignore the scorching fire underneath that rages for the other man. But Joe struggles with what others might think of him if he dates Dallas openly, and Dallas isn’t interested in hiding what he feels for Joe. Joe’s a brave man, but is he brave enough to fight for what he wants?

This was a good story with hot firefighters (no pun intended!). Joe got on my nerves a bit with being so indecisive. I felt bad for Dallas. The ending was quick, but cute. Wish the story would have been longer.

As mentioned, I’m not reading Blood & Thunder, the second book in the THIRDS series. All is not coming up roses for Sloane and Dex so I’m curious to see how their relationship goes. Isaac Pearce is still on the loose and causing all kinds of problems.

For more information on Charlie, here’s the web link to her site:

Be sure to check out THIRDS Thursday here (I can’t wait to read these myself!):

Happy reading, everyone!
