I’m a slacker when it comes to writing book reviews. Well, I should back up and say I’ve been a reading slacker of late. Between Netflix, the World Cup, and now the Tour de France, when is a girl supposed to find time to read and write and sketch . . . okay, I’ll stop now!
Yesterday I was in the mood to read some m-m romance. I picked two novellas and breezed through them pretty easily. I’m going to give you the quick and dirty on what I thought about them both.
First up is Fire Inside by Dawn Douglas. I liked the cover, and the reviews on Amazon were good. I didn’t consult Goodreads before picking this read. Hindsight what it is, I should have.
Before I get ahead of myself, let me share the book blurb. It immediately caught my attention.
After ten years as an active duty Marine, Captain Eric Ramos is rejoining civilian life. His first job is chauffeuring, assisting, and generally keeping track of NBA young gun Tyler Haley. Tyler’s had a rough few months, and his team owner is convinced he needs some hand-holding if he’s going to keep delivering wins for the St. Louis Fire Foxes.
Instead of the arrogant, over-privileged athlete Eric expected, Tyler is a big, blond, lonely twenty-three-year-old who needs more than just an employee to keep him in line. While taking care of Tyler, Eric changes from employee to friend, to something more. And when Eric realizes that something is burning the kid up from the inside out, he’s determined to find a way to help him before Tyler’s carefully constructed façade turns to ash. Before we get into Harold & Michael’s story, I wanted to give a bit of background. As some of you know, I do get a good idea every now and again. Unfortunately, my timing isn’t always the best. I reached out to my friend Michael and asked if and he and his partner would be willing to be interviewed by me for Gay Pride Month. They agreed – yay! Well, this all hit me the very end of June. So, I’m a little late for June, but I’m unofficially extending Gay Pride Month through the first week of July *wink*
Here’s to Harold and Michael and the hope that they can “officially” marry in their home state of Indiana – sooner rather than later!
How long have you been together?
We were best friends for 4 years – dated for 4 years – then had a ceremony and considered ourselves married for 10 years. Wow! That seems like a long time! Continue reading “The Story of Harold and Michael”
This week’s story by Avery is a two-part-er. You can enjoy the first half this week, and then stop by next week to read the conclusion. Hopefully you won’t end up shaking your fist at me for leaving you hanging for a week *grins*
The writing prompt I used for this story is having my character – David – fall. I hope you enjoy the read!
Angel of the Air
David spun the titanium band that now occupied his left ring finger. Even though they’d been engaged for two years prior to tying the knot, he still marveled that Gabriel would want to spend the rest of his life with him.
“What’s going through that head of yours, babe? You look way too serious, considering we’re on our way to Hawaii for our honeymoon.” Gabriel, his partner and former Army Ranger, could read him as though the words were engraved on his forehead.
A small smile graced David’s lips. It warmed his heart to see love broadcasting from Gabriel’s pale blue eyes. “I still can’t believe we’re married. As in officially husband and husband.” Continue reading “Wednesday Briefs: July 2, 2014”
