So, since I’ve been a gym-a-holic since my surgery, I thought it would be fun (well, maybe just fun for me) to post a mock-interview. I regularly read Muscle & Fitness Hers so I pulled some interview questions from their articles as well as throwing in some of my own.
While I’m not a famous athlete or fitness model, I’d like people to know that with a little hard work and some dedication, you can have the body you’ve always wanted (within reason, of course). I’m on a 4 month roll with getting to the gym 4-5 days a week. On non-gym days, you might find me hiking, biking, or going for a run. Don’t worry, I don’t exercise every day of the week. My body is good about letting me know when I’m pushing too hard, and it needs time to recover. Taking time off is not a bad thing – after all, if you’re injured then there’s no working out.
So let’s see if I can make this fun and interesting!
Q: What’s a typical workout for you?
A: Cardio, weights, and then more cardio. My new plan has me exercising (lifting) one body part at a time with fewer reps and heavier weight. I will normally warm up on the treadmill or elliptical, then lift, and cool down on the elliptical or bike.
Q: What is your favorite body part to work?
A: That’s tough – I like just about everything except for legs. I would say it is a toss-up between chest and back. I’m not a pull-up fan, but I like the way I feel after doing them! I like flat bench press with a barbell – it is always a challenge to add more weight and push myself for more reps.
Q: What did you have for lunch today?
A: An egg white omelet, a handful of almonds, and a banana. I tend to eat 5-6 times a day. The smaller meals help me stay full and keep me from getting tired – no carb overload.
Q: Since you’ve been working out and watching your diet, what has been your biggest surprise?
A: How much sugar is in food, especially dairy! I have always loved milk, but now I really watch how much I drink. A serving of milk is almost half of the recommended amount of sugar for a day. Tracking my food (and portions) has really helped to ensure I get enough protein and helped me do a better job limiting my sugar intake.
Q: What or who are your inspiration(s)?
A: That’s easy. Tyler and Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) and Stephen Amell (Arrow). For some reason, most of my heroes or people I’ve looked up to are men. Not sure why that is, but someday I hope to have the female version of Amell abs!
Q: What’s your favorite “new” food – a food you started eating once you began watching your diet?
A: Another easy one! I have two: Ezekiel 4:9 Cinnamon Raisin bread and Justin’s Maple Almond Butter. Both are awesome; although, probably not together!
Q: Favorite supplement?
A: Power Crunch Protein Energy Bar in French Vanilla Crème
Q: Must have item for the gym?
A: My iPod. Gotta have music to get me through, especially that last session of cardio. I’m also a nerd – I try to match my shoes to my outfit. It doesn’t always work, but I do my best!
