The day has gotten away from me – ahhh! I was hoping to get this #SampleSunday post up sooner rather than later, but hopefully it’s okay as it is still Sunday…for another couple of hours at least!
Allow a brief digression, and then I will get to the sample…last night I went on a Historic/ Ghost Tour – Gravediggers and Ghosts of Sharpsburg in the town of Sharpsburg (where the Civil War Battle of Antietam took place). Mark, our guide, was well-versed in local lore and history. He actually gave me several good ideas for my Halloween story. I’m anxious to get back to writing it. This is the story where my main character – Zach Werner – is based upon Michael Taggart’s model Trevor Werner. Check out Michael’s site here for pics of Trevor.
With all that being said, I’ve decided to share the first paragraph (plus a line) of the story. I hope you enjoy this untitled Halloween W.I.P. You’ll notice the shout-out to Michael right away!
Zach Werner’s mind focused on his upcoming photography assignment, the one Professor Taggerman announced in class moments ago. In fact, Zach’s brain chugged and churned to the point he missed the last step outside of Adams Hall. The stumble caused him to nearly face plant on the concrete sidewalk. Only a swift, firm grip on his upper arm saved him from that bit of embarrassment.
“Whoa. Careful there, rommie.” Preston, who was taller and more muscular, had no difficulty righting Zach.
That’s all for now. The next paragraph gives too much away!! LOL Author’s prerogative, right?
I’ll leave you with a photo I took last night of the Jacob Rohrbach Inn, which is reportedly haunted. For more information on the Inn, check out their website here.
