Thoughts on Nightshine

Nightshine is the fourth and final book in Lynn Viehl’s Kyndred series. It didn’t take me very long to read it, but if I’m being honest, I pushed through to get it done, not because I fell in love with the plot or characters.

NightshineI’ve had a break in reading this series so it has been slow going with remembering everything and who is who and what happened in prior books. Even at the end of this book, I’m not totally sure of all the characters.

I was excited when I read the blurb on the back of the book – Charlotte, Charlie, was a paramedic. I thought that was cool, and I was curious what her gift was. Sadly, I don’t remember Samuel from the prior books. Apparently, he didn’t leave some reviewers with the best of impressions.

The more I read, the more I came to dislike Charlie. I couldn’t relate to her, and I had no idea why she was being so difficult with Sam. He seemed to be trying to do the right things by her.

The island was just weird for me. The golden vampire god-like guy. He was disturbing. Not sure I understood all of that, either.

Overall the ending was meh. ** SPOILER** I’m very happy about what happened to Jonah. That was a long time coming!! I was kind of disappointed that the meeting between Sam, Charlie, Andrew and the vamps wasn’t more cordial. For some reason, I thought it would be friendlier with them catching up on things.

I looked back through my reviews of the other Kyndred stories. Dreamveil was my favorite; it received 4 stars. I think I just really liked the Darkyn series better.

My rating for Nightshine is 3 out of 5 stars
